Dec. 28th, 2009 01:03 pm Christmas

I have noticed that it's been very quiet here lately. Did everyone have a good Christmas? I had a great Christmas, not much in the way of pressies but the spirit was there. Work was very busy but everyone seemed in a great holiday mood. I worked GS the day after Christmas and everyone was polite and patient, amazing but true.

Oct. 25th, 2007 10:37 pm I love working softlines.

Actually I don't mind working softlines, there is always something to do even when there's no pulls. Although one day I am going ballistic on a guest who messes up one side of the table I'm folding, they act like I'm not there. Today was a typical day in SL, I had a short mid-shift, 1-6:30. There was a call for someone to help a guest in lingerie and I said I'd take it, anything to get away from the RTW tables. This little old lady of about 80 needed help finding a bra. No problem I ask what size and she tells me 36D but she won't wear one with the underwire. I try to tell her the selection in that size without a wire is very limited, but I will look. I find a good candidate and show it to her. She doesn't like it because it has the metal hooks in the back. She wants the one called "Barely There" just like the one she has on. I'm about to tell her we don't carry that name when she whips up her blouse to show me her bra. I quickly tell her we don't have that and find a different style which she finally decides to take. But I am totally scarred for life now.

Jul. 30th, 2007 08:09 pm Writer's Block: In The Money

If you won $100 this afternoon, what would you do with it?

That's a very interesting question. It's not enough money to change my life so I would probably stock up on the things I really need. Like underwear, shoes, stuff like that. I might take $20 and either go out to eat or go to a movie with my husband. Of course if I was smart I would just put it in the bank for a rainy day.

Jul. 6th, 2007 12:41 pm Writer's Block: Summer Break

How did you spend summers when you were a kid?

I loved summer as a kid. My brother and I use to spend most of it at the beach with our friends. Usually my cousins from North Carolina would come up for the summer. My one cousin was right in between my brother and me in age so the three of us were inseparable. Jim, my brother, played little league baseball and because my parents both worked I had to go to every game. It wouldn't have been so bad except his team was always so good that they would be up by 15 points by the 5th inning, and I would get so bored. His team always won and always got to go to the Twins game at the end of the summer. In the summer of 1968 Jim died he was 11, I was 12, he had a malformed heart valve. The doctor that treated him went on to pioneer the artificial heart valve, even though he couldn't save my brother I know others were saved because of his work on Jim. Summers after Jim's death were very lonely, I didn't go to the beach much, I spent most of my time in my room reading and eating junk food. I finally started coming out of my shell when I was 16 and summer again became something I shared with my friends. We'd go to the beach and to the movies. One place we loved to hang out was at Woolworth's store. They had a food counter where we could get the best ice cream sodas in town. I had many happy summers, a few lonely summers and one of the worst summers of my life.
